After the pandemic briefly paused the racing season, International GT roared back to life with back-to-back race weekends in Wisconsin and Ohio in June and the TouchUpPaint.com Porsche GT3 Cup was in the thick of the racing at both tracks.
Chuck Smithee piloted the car to two podium finishes in the sprint races at iconic Road America in Elkhart Lake, Wisconsin over the June 18-21 weekend with a third place finish in the first sprint and a second place in sprint number two. Tight multi-class, wheel-to-wheel racing in Sunday’s enduro led to some car contact halfway through Sunday’s enduro that unfortunately knocked the #55 out of the race..
The Zotz Racing team had the car back up to spec the very next weekend at Mid-Ohio where Smithee snagged a second in class in Sunday’s 90 minute enduro. Smithee’s TouchUpPaint.com Porsche GT3 Cup is now running second in points for the Mission Foods GT3 Cup Trophy for the season.
